Who are the Southborough Players?

The Southborough Players, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and enhancement of live theater performance in our local community. Founded in 1969, the Players present shows throughout the year including children's theater, a comedy or drama, a popular Broadway, and a 'cabaret' musical. Our goal is to bring quality theater to the community that reflects the highest artistic standards.

As a community group, we typically draw our resources from the local area; although we've had the privilege of working with exceptionally talented performers and directors from throughout Central and Eastern Massachusetts, Southern New Hampshire, and Rhode Island.

During the past 33 years, the Southborough Players have mounted more than seventy productions. Our "home base," so to speak, is the Trottier Middle School in Southborough, but we have also performed at St. Mark's, Fay, Assabet Valley Technical, Algonquin High, Mary Finn, and Woodward Middle schools. Being independently funded, we rely primarily on ticket sales and arts lottery grants for our financial support. All of our proceeds go into future productions or educational scholarships.

Besides performing shows, The Players are committed to arts education. We offer training to anyone interested in theater craft and donate scholarships to local residents who plan to pursue a college education in performing arts.

A message from the Board

The Southborough Players have performed live theater for the Metrowest community for more than thirty years. As the current Board, we're proud to be part of this long and illustrious heritage. In today's uncertain world, the staying power of The Players over the last more than quarter century is a tribute to the countless number of volunteers who give of their time, energy, and sometimes out of their own pockets, just for the joy of theater. We dedicate our season to them and, hopefully, those in the future who follow their dreams or just want to "make a difference."

With that in mind, we'd like to invite you to join the Players. No experience is necessary, only a desire to be involved. If you'd like to learn more about theater - on or off stage - we can teach you. If you can handle a drill or a telephone, hammer or a copy machine, paint brush or change from a dollar, you can help bring live theater to our community.
